Privacy Policy
The short version: Media Forge does not collect analytics, track your usage or read your media files. Your API keys are stored securely in the macOS safeStorage on your device. Direct download licence validation sends a device identifier to our server — Mac App Store purchases are validated by Apple and nothing is sent to us.
1. Overview
Media Forge is a macOS application for organising local media libraries. This policy describes how the app handles your information.
Media Forge is designed to work entirely on your local machine. We do not collect usage analytics, crash reports or media library contents. The only data we receive is what is necessary to validate your licence — described in Section 3 below.
2. Data stored on your device
The following information is stored locally on your Mac only:
- API keys — Fanart.tv, Subdl, Emby and Jellyfin API keys are stored in the macOS safeStorage. This is Apple's secure credential storage and the data is encrypted and never leaves your device.
- Server details — Jellyfin, Emby and Plex server URLs and tokens are stored in the macOS safeStorage.
- Rename history — A log of rename operations is stored locally for undo and audit purposes. This contains file paths only and remains on your device.
- Subtitle skip list — A list of shows you have chosen to skip for subtitle download, stored locally.
- Preferences — App settings such as subtitle language and theme preference, stored locally.
None of this data is transmitted to us or any third party.
3. Third-party services
Media Forge communicates with the following third-party services on your behalf when you use specific features:
- The TVDB — Used to look up metadata for your media files. Search queries are sent to the TVDB API. See the TVDB's privacy policy at thetvdb.com.
- Fanart.tv — Used to fetch logo, clearart, banner and disc artwork. Your Fanart.tv API key and search queries are sent to Fanart.tv's API. See Fanart.tv's privacy policy at fanart.tv.
- Subdl — Used for subtitle downloads when configured. Your search queries are sent to Subdl's API. See Subdl's privacy policy at subdl.com.
- Jellyfin, Emby and Plex — Library refresh requests are sent to your own self-hosted server only. No data is sent to Jellyfin, Emby or Plex's own servers.
- Paddle — Payment processing for direct purchases is handled by Paddle (paddle.com), who acts as our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your payment and billing information directly. See Paddle's privacy policy at paddle.com/legal/privacy.
We do not control these third-party services and are not responsible for their privacy practices.
4. Licence validation
When you activate a licence, the App sends the following information to our licence server (mediaforge.uk):
- Device identifier — a randomly generated UUID created on first launch and stored securely on your device. This identifier is not linked to your name, Apple ID or any other personal information.
- Transaction ID — your Paddle order reference, used to verify your purchase.
This data is stored securely and used solely for the purpose of validating your licence and enforcing per-licence device limits (Annual: 2 Macs, Lifetime: 3 Macs). It is not shared with third parties and is not used for marketing or tracking purposes.
You may request deletion of your licence record at any time by contacting us at privacy@mediaforge.uk. Note that deletion will deactivate your licence.
Mac App Store purchases — if you purchased via the Mac App Store, licence validation is handled entirely by Apple. No device identifier or transaction data is sent to our servers.
5. Analytics and tracking
Media Forge does not include any analytics, crash reporting, telemetry or tracking of any kind. We do not know how many times you use the app, which features you use or what content you have in your library.
6. Your media files
Media Forge accesses your media files solely to read filenames for TVDB matching and to perform rename operations. The contents of your media files are never read or transmitted. Your files never leave your device.
7. Children's privacy
Media Forge is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Contact
